Our site visit only made us more excited to get started on the greenhouse with Harper-Archer Elementary. We arrived in the morning to scope out the back field and outdoor classroom to evaluate what had worked with previous STEM education efforts and where we could improve. Our technical team got started taking pictures and measuring out the spaces where we could build the structure and evaluating how different aspects of our environment could affect the building and design process.
We took note of pathways of entry and exit, interviewed the STEM coordinator, Bill Ware, on how and where the children played, and documented how weather patterns affected the field that we were planning on building on. For the technical team, this visit was especially helpful, as Sam Dugan, our technical lead said, "the site visit allowed my team and I to better understand the areas as well as ideate for their designs." The end of our visit coincided with some of the younger kids coming out for recess, so we got to see who our work would be impacting!

This was a great motivator moving into our second fundraiser of the year: Giving Tuesday. Following high spend holidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to donate to nonprofits and our community. We saw this as the perfect day to get our message out further by encouraging team members to share this project that they have been working so hard on with their loved ones!
We worked hard to showcase our dedicated efforts with Harper-Archer Elementary School designing the greenhouse and developing STEM curriculum, all while employing sustainable engineering practices. After sharing the story of EWB-ATL and the students of Harper-Archer Elementary, our loved ones were incredibly generous in their donations, bringing our total amount of funds raised up to nearly $4,000!
